Can I access a UNIX shell or login remotely to other systems on the Internet?

Borealis does not offer shell access. However, you can run a telnet or rlogin client directly on your own machine. This will give you the ability to login to accounts on any other Internet-connected system.

In order to telnet from Borealis to other systems, you simply need to download an appropriate telnet client for your system. A good set of reviews and links to Windows-based telnet packages can be found at the Consummate Winsock Apps List of terminal applications.

Do you support IRC? How do I find chat software?

IRC is supported through our connection, although we do not run a local IRC server. For a good selection of clients, check the list available at www.tucows.com. The help file for the client you choose should give you some pointers on how to choose an appropriate public-domain IRC server.
