How do I create a bookmark in Netscape?

To keep track of the sites you'd like to visit again, create a bookmark by selecting Bookmarks, Add Bookmark. This will store the URL in the bookmarks list. To return to a site in the future, simply select it from the Bookmarks menu.

When I click on a link to an e-mail address, I get the error message:

"Your email address has not been specified. Before sending mail or news messages, you must specify a return address in the Mail and News Preferences."

Go to the Options menu and select Mail and News Preferences. Click on the Servers tab. Complete the following fields as follows:

  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server mail.bcgroup.net

    Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: mail.bcgroup.net

    POP3 User Name: {your e-mail POP account}

If you wish to read news with Netscape, the news server field must also be configured to:

  • News (NNTP) Server: news.pgweb.com
Click on the Identity tab and enter:
  • Your Full Name or Company Name

    Your E-mail Address

Your return address (same as E-mail Address)

The other fields are optional.

How do I use Netscape to read Newsgroups?

First, follow the instructions above on configuring Mail and News. Now select Window, Netscape News.

Why are some sites faster or slower than others?

Web sites are connected to the Internet at different access speeds. Occasionally, the site you are trying may be overloaded because many people are accessing it simultaneously, or it may be down altogether. In this case, either you will be unable to access the site at all or images may be missing or appear very slowly. Try again later. This has nothing to do with Borealis's network – we do not have control over other sites.

Some sites contain many large graphics, which may take a significant time to transfer. While waiting for a large page to finish displaying, watch the transfer status in the bottom left corner of the Netscape browser. It will read "Document: Done" when the page is finished.

If the transfer appears to be finished, yet the page has not been displayed properly, try clicking on the RELOAD button on Netscape's menu bar.

Where can I get more information about Netscape?

Try Netscape's own site at http://home.netscape.com/. You can also get to it directly by clicking on the N graphic at the top right of the Netscape browser. Check Netscape's list of frequently-asked questions.
